Plans to transform the former Goodfellows School in Spalding Common into a new care home facility have been given the green light by councillors
Country Court Care Ltd submitted a second application to South Holland District Council after original plans were refused in July 2016.
Councillors on the council’s planning committee voted 11 to three in favour of the revised plans.
As previously reported, the primary school will now be demolished to make way for the two and three storey care home with 60 bedrooms and parking for 22 cars.
Matt Hubbard, director of The Planning Hub, which submitted the application on behalf of Country Court Care Ltd, said: “We are very pleased with the committee’s decision, which will now allow for a viable redevelopment of this brownfield site, that has been empty for some time now and was becoming a visual blight on this entrance into the town.
“The development will serve to meet a defined need for care home bed spaces within the locality and will provide an excellent price of economic development for the town, not only during the construction stage but also when operational, through the creation of many new jobs.
“The overwhelming opinion of the committee was the same, and we are grateful not only for their support but also the proactive support from the planners during their consideration of the application.”
