Premium Boston Land Rover dealer expands with £7m investment

Duckworth Jaguar Land Rover is getting set to open its brand new Boston site in a matter of weeks following a £7 million investment, with further expansion planned for its Market Rasen branch.

The new 50,000 sq ft workspace on Wash Road makes up just part of the 4.25 acre site with a purpose-built showroom, parts store and workshop, which is anticipated to open on February 6.

The company will be moving its Land Rovers across from its current London Road site over the weekend of the February 4 in preparation for opening on the Monday, however the site will remain open and continue to sell Isuzu.

The new site provides the company with a 75% increase in size, including 271 car parking spaces, 50 of which will be for customers, and a space for every demonstrator on display – fully equipped with electrical charging points.

Ben Duckworth, Managing Director of the group, said: “We have tried to be as proactive as possible and we have built it and future proofed it in terms of electricity.

“Electricity is getting more and more expensive so we have a 200kw solar farm on the roof. We will hopefully be electricity neutral, but that depends on how many dark days we have.”

In comparison to Duckworth’s current Boston site on London Road, the new site on Wash Road, off the A16, will provide an addition 13 handover bays, 13 work ramps and have space for up to 80 used cars.

It also comes as the company introduces a new premium car brand to its franchise, expanding into selling Jaguars.

Ben said: “It’s a big investment. Jaguars are an addition for us now as Duckworth has never been a Jaguar dealer before.

“We have plans, with taking Jaguar on, that will increase our turnover and hopefully our bottom line.”

Jaguar left Boston a number of years ago now Duckworth’s are provide a new home for the premium brand in the town.

“We’ve already recruited 14 new staff, so we have an extra sales manager for Jaguar, with a new sales team and quite a few new technicians and a few in the parts department, service department and all the way through the business really.”

The Boston facility will now accommodate over 60 staff, from 14 in 2008.

Already selling nearly 1,000 Land Rovers, both new and used, at its London Road site. Ben hopes to sell around 400 Jaguars in the first year of the site being open to boost the company’s bottom line.

“The customer is at the centre of everything we do. We will have a customer core down the middle. We will have lounges and a barista bar and cafe at the bak and then we will have the service department in the centre of the building,” Ben continued.

“The other thing that we didn’t have before was a proper parts area. Now, anyone wanting to buy parts doesn’t have to go into the showroom, they can just go into a separate area.”

Despite being slightly behind schedule, workers are now making sure that the final fixture and fitting are perfect and ready for its official opening on March 2.

Ben’s plans for expansion don’t end at Boston; he is about to invest an addition £2 million to expand the Market Rasen site.

“In Market Rasen, the site area is big enough now, because we bought a factory at the back to expand the area,” Ben said. “It’s now just a case of having to update it to the latest corporate identity.”
