Visit Lincoln has appointed a new head to play an active role in developing and shaping the city’s tourism promotion.
Lydia Rusling will be taking over the role from Emma Tatlow who announced she would be stepping down in October 2016 to a new national role in the national Mayflower400 celebrations that are due to take place in 2020.
With 13 years’ experience working across Lincolnshire’s tourism industry, Lydia Rusling has played a central role in many of the county’s most prominent tourism projects.
Between 2012 and 2015 Lydia helped lead the award winning Lincoln Castle Revealed project, and wrote the marketing strategy which formed part of the Heritage Lottery bid.
Her former role at Lincolnshire County Council in Commissioning Investment saw her leading the new place marketing strategy for both the council and Local Enterprise Partnership, which resulted in evolving a new cultural strategy for Lincolnshire and establishing a framework for investment in Greater Lincolnshire.
Lydia said: “I’m looking forward to continuing Visit Lincoln’s excellent work and building upon their reputation, as well as reaching out to a broader business community.
“Tourism should not be seen in isolation, if we are to grow as a city we should lead the promotion of Lincoln as a great place to live, invest and learn, as well as visit.
“I am initially focussing on meeting and talking to our partners, and I’d urge anyone who’d like to work closer with Visit Lincoln to get in touch with me.”
Mark Hollingworth, Chair of Visit Lincoln said: “The current destination management plan for Lincoln has come to an end, and it was really important we appointed someone who could help to positively shape the future of the city as a place to visit, live, work and invest in.”
Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive at Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, which is a destination partner said: “Tourism and the visitor economy is worth billions of pounds to Lincolnshire every year, and it’s an integral part of the wider development and investment of Lincoln.”
