Two Lincolnshire businesses have come out on top in the regional heats of the FSB & Worldpay UK Business Awards 2017.
The Elite Fish & Chip Company in Lincoln has won Family Business of the year, whilst 3D Wines Ltd in Swineshead has won Micro Business of the Year.
The awards recognise and celebrate the most outstanding smaller businesses in the UK, a sector that makes an overwhelming contribution to the UK’s economy and culture.
The regional category winners were selected by a panel of representatives from the small business sector from across the UK, and will now go forward to the next stage of judging.
Eleven UK national category finalists will be shortlisted to then go through to the final for the FSB & Worldpay UK Business Award 2017, being held on May 10 at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
Adrian Tweedale, owner at The Elite Fish & Chip Company, which has shops in Lincoln, Ruskington and Sleaford, said: “We’re really pleased to have been shortlisted and to be winners of the Family Business category in these awards. Our charitable and community work is so important to us so to have that recognised alongside our business success is great.
“In the past year we’ve raised more than £10,000 for charity, supported a promising young athlete and of course our hard-working staff served our wonderful customers with fantastic fish and chips.
“Our move in 2015 to more sustainable fishing stocks has also been something we want to shout about so if we progress further in the competition it will be a perfect platform for us to spread the positive message of eating quality, responsibly-sourced seafood too!”
Sally Rhudy, co-owner of 3D Wines said: “We are delighted to be awarded the Micro Business of the Year 2017 for our region. We have even more reason to celebrate this year, as we are also celebrating our 25th birthday.
“3D Wines introduced the concept of renting a row of vines 25 years ago. Since that time, we have become a well-known unique gift business and wine specialists with a knack for searching out great vineyards and wines crafted with real passion.
“From our small team at the 3D Wines office in Swineshead, Lincolnshire and our winemakers we look forward to being of service for many more years to come. We’ll be popping the cork on one of our exclusive champagnes to celebrate!”
James Frost, chief marketing and commercial officer at Worldpay UK, said: “Small businesses will continue to help drive the UK economy through both their innovation and expansion. It’s critical, especially in these uncertain times, that we support and recognise their contribution to the national economic growth and applaud the hard work and commitment that goes into running your own business.”
