Lincoln is home to the nation’s second best fish and chip takeaway business. But how do the team make their traditional dishes taste so good?
Co-owner of Burton Road Chippy Des Anastasiou believes its all in the local produce and the care the staff provide to customers.
Using Lincolnshire-grown potatoes, they are tested to make sure that the sugar content is just right to make the perfect chip – “One that’s not too soggy and not too dry”.
As for the fish, they’re fresh every day from the Lincolnshire coast in Grimsby.
After 13 years of running his own business in a smaller Burton Road shop with Co-owner Lesley Graves, Des and his team moved into Burton Road Chippy’s current shop so they could open a restaurant on the side of their takeaway in 2010.
Now the company, which employs 15 staff, can brag that it’s the second best fish and chip shop in the country, thanks to a prestigious industry award.
Having been in the industry for more than 30 years, Des would still choose to eat a good portion of fish and chips any day of the week.
