‘For sale’ signs have been hoisted over Grimsby-based Seachill, the UK arm of the Icelandic Group.
Founded in 1998, it has become one of the largest chilled fish processors in the UK. The company employees 750 people in both of its Grimsby factories.
The organisation had turned a £3 million loss in 2014 to a £4.3 million profit, with earnings before tax of £10.4 million last year.
This was thanks to in part a key customer, Tesco. Seachill produce some products for the Tesco’s Finest selection.
Seachill is also the owner of The Saucy Fish Co.
The fate of the company’s employees is unknown as this time.
CEO of Icelandic Seachill Simon Smith said the business was in “great shape” with consistent year-on-year growth, adding the sale announcement was “no surprise” and a positive step for the business.
