A new jazz bar will open in Lincoln tomorrow as a place for ‘grown-ups’ to enjoy a night out.
Lincoln Jazz Café, which is owned by businessman Nimesh Dhokia, has been created with a home-from-home style.
The bar, situated on Water Lane just off Guildhall Street, has cost £50,000 to refit and has a specially-designed jazz cocktail list created by mixologist and co-owner Matt Rushton.
The bar will be open three days a week, opening times are:
- Thursdays: 6pm to 12am
- Fridays: 5pm to 1am
- Saturdays: 12pm to 1am
All 25 cocktails will be named after songs, all of which feature on the bar’s playlist of Jazz and Soul music.
The drinks menu will feature more than 45 different wines supplied by Steep Hill Wines and unusual hand-picked spirits.
Furniture has been created by TV designer and “upcycling” expert Jay Blades, who made the Jazz Café’s seating by refurbishing old chairs and tables.
An example of some of the cocktails on offer:
- Motion Picture Soundtrack (Radiohead) – a combination of Wild Turkey Bourbon, Chambord black raspberry liqueur, crème du mure, pink grapefruit syrup and orange bitters – £6.95
- Blood on the Leaves (Kanye West) – Havana Club Anejo 3 Anos white rum, crème de menthe, lemon juice and lemonade – £5.95
- Dirty Diana (Michael Jackson) – Eristoff vodka, crème de menthe, caramel toffee liqueur, milk and cream – £6.45
- Gold Rush (Snoop Dogg) – Pirate’s Grog gold rum, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur and apricot brandy – £6.95
Nimesh said: “The idea was partly inspired by a place I used to drink in myself years ago.
“But really I wanted a bar where my wife and her friends could kick their shoes off, relax and enjoy a good glass of wine or a cocktail and not feel threatened.
“It feels like sitting in someone’s lounge with friends having a drink and that is deliberate.
“Some of the decorations are mine and the saxophone hanging on the wall is my little brother’s. It feels like a home from home and I think that’s the kind of atmosphere I wanted. It’s a place for grown-ups to drink, chat and relax.”
